Ananova - England stars taunted with doughnuts

England's hungry football stars are being taunted by their Croatian rivals - with doughnuts.

Coach Fabio Capello put the entire squad on a special junk food-free diet ahead of Wednesday's World Cup qualifier in Zagreb.

Now hosts Croatia have begun laughing at England's attempts to keep fit.

"Every coach has his own opinion. But I'm glad that in the Croatian national team we do things differently," said striker Ivica Olic.

"We can always have a doughnut or a piece of apple pie when we want it," he laughed in local newspaper, Slobodna Dalmacija.

Now Croatian fans have begun blitzing the Maksimir Stadium with boxes of cakes and sweets for the starving England stars.

"If they're getting too fat they should use more energy on the pitch," laughed one fan. "They should be hungry for goals, not Mars bars."

Capello, 62, banned all junk food while England's players prepared for a round of World Cup qualifiers.

The desperate players were reportedly forced to smuggle in packets of crisps and biscuits hidden in their kit.
